"Missing Treasures"

We've all misplaced things in our lives. More often than not, it's our own fault. Sometimes though, things disappear when we know that we've placed them somewhere that we'd remember, or at least we thought we had. Most of you already know that there are number of ways in which a ghost can make its presence known. Visual sightings, sounds or smells and missing items that return after a few hours or days are just a few. I've had a couple of experiences that I think many of you could relate to or at the very least, find interesting.

I have had the opportunity to be a guest on, "The X-Zone" radio program hosted by Rob McConnell. All five visits occurred when the show was broadcast from the studios of, "610 CKTB" located at 12 Yates Street in St. Catherine's, Ontario. The building is over a century old and was used as one of the final stops in the Underground Railroad which brought thousands of slaves to freedom in the last century. The building was also used as hotel and is most famous for being one of the most Haunted sites in Ontario. On every occasion that I visited there were paranormal occurrences. Unexplained voices through the earphones we wore were a common occurrence. Doors opening and closing on their own and cold spots were also common. One of the most frustrating events that happened involved the disappearance of my camera on one of the visits.

Like any self respecting writer, I carry a small, voice activated tape recorder and camera most everywhere I go. I have used the tape recorder on a number of occasions to record EVP phenomena and the camera has caught its share of mysterious things on film. I had used both items at the studio one night and had managed to capture a number of odd recordings. While speaking with another guest I placed the camera on the reception desk and proceeded to pack up at the conclusion of the night's activities. I KNOW, I placed the camera inside my briefcase, but when I got home, the camera was gone. I emptied the entire contents of the briefcase onto the kitchen table, but the camera was not there. I called Rob McConnell the next morning and asked him to look for the missing camera. Later that afternoon, Rob called back to say that the camera was not in the studio. Despite an intensive search of the house and car, the camera remained missing.

I had been asked to return to the radio station the following weekend and when I arrived, I sat the briefcase on the reception desk and opened it to get my note pad and tape recorder. There, sitting on top of the notepad, was the missing camera. As you can imagine, I was astonished, I KNOW it wasn't there when I left the house. I picked it up and surveyed the film through the small window on the back. I had taken several pictures the previous weekend, but the camera had now been fully rewound. When I had the film developed the technician asked me why I had brought in unused film for processing. Puzzled, it suddenly dawned on me that perhaps I had caught something on film that didn't want the attention. Whatever the reason for the missing camera, I now make sure it goes where I go and like a nervous parent, never let it out of my sight.

So, if in the future you misplace something, don't assume you just forgot where you put it. Perhaps there's another explaination...
